Characteristics of the protein coding sequence
DELILA
EN
DELILA is a basic helix-loop-helix transcription factor that interacts with Rosea 1 and WDR1 proteins to regulate flower pigmentation. The proteins increase transcription, and thus subsequent expression of, anthocyanin biosynthesis genes. Overexpression of Delila in tobacco also suggested that increased anti-oxidant activity improved the abiotic stress tolerance of the modified plants. Due to the red pigment production, the gene could also be used as a visible selectable marker.
